US Agr dept – going to try to limit damage to agriculture sector from trade war

USDA Undersecretary Northey

  • US Dept of Agriculture is ‘going to find ways to attempt to hold harmless the agriculture sector’ from trade conflict with China
  • Northey says ‘there’s a lot of different options out there’ to protect US farmers from trade dispute
  • Northey says USDA needs to ‘see the reaction of what tariffs will be and what the reaction of markets are’

“US Dept of Agriculture is ‘going to find ways to attempt to hold harmless the agriculture sector’ from trade conflict with China”

What a convoluted sentence.

But in this way Northey is expressing eloquently the near impossibility of the task ahead for him and his department – US agriculture is going to be a massive loser from this war (so are taxpayers once farmers get government support). China is proposing hitting where it hurts – soybeans being a big target.
Brazil should benefit.
