The AUD is the strongest while the JPY is the weakest as NA trader enter

Final day of the week.  Geopolitical risk over the weekend.  Michigan sentiment and JOLTS.

The strongest currency at the start of the NA session is the AUD. The weakest is the JPY. 

The USD has given up some of the gains seen in trading yesterday, but most of the activity is centered on the AUD (down -0.63% – the AUDUSD moved above its 100 day MA today at 0.77849)).   The dollar is also lower vs the GBP, the CAD and NZD. It is higher vs the JPY (trades above the April high).

The trading ranges are somewhat soft although, the GBPUSD outperforms most of the pairs (vs. the USD). The GBPJPY continues a run higher that started yesterday (off highs but still up strongly). The EURGBP also resumed its move lower (trades near the lows for the day).

In other markets, the snapshot shows:

  • Spot gold up $1.83 or 0.13% at $1336.51
  • WTI crude is down -$0.11 r -0.15% at $66.87
  • Bitcoin is up again today.  It broke sharply higher yesterday and is up $377 today and back above $8000 at $8100.   THe high reached $8176. The low fell to $7716

US stocks are a little higher after JPM, Wells and Citigroup earnings:

  • Dow futures imply a 100 point rise
  • S&P is up 9.5 points
  • Nasdaq is up 12 points

US yields are near unchanged levels after the rise yesterday

  • 2 year 2.25$, unchanged
  • 5 year 2.67%, unchanged
  • 10 year 2.837%, unchanged
  • 30 year 3.045% unchanged.
