Liikanen to succeed Draghi as ECB president next year?

A piece by the FT highlights Finland central bank head Erkki Liikanen as among the front runners now to succeed Draghi as ECB president

The report mentions about Liikanen moving away from a hawkish stance to one that is more neutral or “in the centre ground” as it says – a shift that helps him make a case to replace Draghi as ECB president when the latter’s term comes to an end at the end of October 2019.

While Weidmann is at the end of the hawkish scale – and
still the favourite in the race, Liikanen is seen as the more cool and composed member of the council it would seem.
