Japan February housing starts y/y -2.6% vs -4.2% expected

Latest data released by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism – 30 March 2018

  • Prior -13.2%
  • Annualised housing starts 0.926m vs 0.856m prior
  • Construction orders y/y +19.2% vs +0.9% prior

Not as big of a miss, showing that last month’s sharp cooldown in demand was a bit of a one-off. A minor data point.

Also released earlier is Japan’s February vehicle production which came in at -0.1% y/y compared to the
prior reading of -3.8% y/y.

It measures the domestic production of cars, light trucks, and commercial vehicles in the country. Provides a general glimpse into the auto sector, not much to glean upon though from the reading.

By the way, I myself will be having a bit of a breather in observance for Easter today so unless there are major developments to update, I’d like to wish you all a good Easter break. And to those who are still at it today, have a good day and good luck with your trading!
