Fed’s Kaplan says he’s optimistic many of US-China suggested trade tariffs will not be implemented

US Fed’s Kaplan speaking to reporters in Beijing 10 April

  • optimistic and hopeful
  • it’s clearly in the interests of both countries to have constructive trading relationship

Kaplan understandably drawn into trade matters while on Chinese soil but remains equally, understandably, diplomatic.

Elsewhere Reuters now carrying the story, citing Bloomberg’s unnamed source, that US-China trade talks broke down last week on US insistence that China curtails support for high-tech industries

Meanwhile a little USD demand noted again as USDJPY nudges up to 107.03, EURUSD down to 1.2322 with GBPUSD down to 1.4157 also helped by EURGBP back up through 0.8700.

Earlier I warned of offers/res between 1.4180-00 and bids/support into 0.8680. I hope some of you took heed.
