China imposed tariffs on US in order to ‘balance losses’ – state media
According to a commentary from the official People’s Daily

announced yesterday that they would impose tariffs on 128 US products, and the news outlet reports that these tariffs were announced in order to ‘balance the losses’ caused by US duties and to protect China’s national interests.
There was also some comments by a researcher from China’s commerce ministry:
“China does not like trade wars, but being on the side of justice, China has no choice but to enter a war to end a war”, says Wang Hailou
This is just the beginning, folks. The US is expected to announce tariffs targeted at China’s high-tech products, and likely after that we will see China retaliate with levies on soybeans and autos – among other things.
The soybeans tariff though may be a hard one for China to play out, since the US does actually produce very cheap soybeans for that matter and with a weakening US dollar it only helps that case even more. So, the announcement may not be taken too kindly by Chinese consumers.
